Celebrating the women behind the portraits.
Sometimes all it takes is seeing someone else have a fabulous experience to start imagining yourself doing the same thing. For Nancy, that inspiration came from a former coworker who had visited Lone Star Pin-up with her daughter. Their portraits were incredible, and Nancy decided it was time to create a few of her own.
In December 2025, Nancy joined us at the studio in Temple, Texas, for a day of dress-up, pampering, and glamour photography for women who deserve to feel every bit as fabulous as they look. She didn’t need a special occasion or a milestone to celebrate. She simply wanted to do something fun for herself, and as it turned out, she had a wonderful time doing it.
A Little Shy at First…
Nancy was an absolute sweetheart from the moment she arrived, although she seemed a little shy when we first started photographing her. That’s something we see all the time at the studio, especially with women who aren’t accustomed to being the center of attention or having a camera pointed in their direction.
One of the things I love about longer portrait sessions is watching that initial nervousness gradually disappear. The first outfit or two gives everyone a chance to settle in, get comfortable with posing, and realize that being photographed isn’t nearly as intimidating as they imagined. By the time we’re several looks into the session, those same women are often posing like they’ve been doing it for years.
Nancy was a lovely example of that. As the day went on, she became more relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, and it was such a pleasure watching her enjoy herself. When we asked what surprised her most about the experience, she told us there weren’t really any surprises at all. She felt at ease, and she could tell how much we enjoy what we do.

Playing Dress-Up Never Gets Old
When we asked Nancy about her favorite part of the day, she had a wonderfully simple answer: “I’ve always enjoyed playing dress up. Having someone do your hair and makeup is a plus.”
We couldn’t agree more! There’s something delightful about having an entire wardrobe at your fingertips, a professional hair and makeup artist taking care of the finishing touches, and absolutely no reason to be practical about any of it. At Lone Star Pin-up, we firmly believe that playing dress-up is something you should never have to outgrow.
Nancy explored several different looks during her session, from cozy sweater portraits and soft, romantic white-sheet images to classic pin-up glamour. She also embraced her longtime love of the 1920s with a flapper-inspired look. Each style gave her a chance to show off a different side of her personality, and by the end of the day, she’d created a wonderful variety of portraits.
Of course, having so many different looks comes with one small problem: choosing your favorites! Nancy loved her photographs and had a difficult time narrowing down her selections. Fortunately, she decided to take home a generous collection of portraits, giving her plenty of memories from her fabulous day in front of the camera.
Seeing Herself in a Different Light
One of the most meaningful things Nancy shared with us came when we asked whether her portrait session had changed the way she sees herself.
“I never thought I was very attractive,” she admitted. “Although, my husband tells me I am all the time. After my photo session I realized I can look pretty.”
It’s such a simple statement, but it says so much.
We meet women every day who have spent years being their own harshest critics. They’re quick to notice the things they don’t like about themselves and much slower to recognize everything that’s beautiful about them. Sometimes those feelings have been around for so long that they’ve simply become part of how they see themselves.
That’s one of the reasons I love creating these portraits. Professional hair and makeup, beautiful wardrobe, flattering lighting, and guided posing all play their part, but the woman in the finished photograph is still the same woman who walked through our doors. We haven’t replaced her with someone else. We’ve simply given her an opportunity to see herself in a way she might not have before.
For Nancy, that meant looking at her photographs and realizing that she really could look beautiful. And that’s a realization worth celebrating.
Life After the Glamour
Since her portrait session, Nancy has been navigating a different kind of personal journey. Following neck surgery, she spent several months recovering and relying on help with everyday activities. She described the experience as humbling, particularly for someone accustomed to doing things for herself, and expressed gratitude for the support she received during her recovery.
Once her doctor gave her the all-clear, Nancy began focusing on her wellness goals, something she’s continuing to work toward with determination. She’s also especially proud of the time she spends mentoring college students, sharing her experience and encouraging others as they find their own paths.
It’s always interesting to hear what our clients have been doing since their sessions. The photographs capture one particular day, but life keeps moving, bringing new challenges, accomplishments, and opportunities along with it. We love getting to catch up with the women behind the portraits and celebrate everything they’re doing beyond the studio.
Her Advice? Trust the Process!
Nancy has a little advice for anyone who’s been thinking about booking a session but feels nervous about taking the plunge.
“Have a beverage… Just kidding!” she laughed, before offering her actual advice: “Trust the process and have fun.”
That really is the secret. You don’t need to know how to pose, have any modeling experience, or arrive feeling like the most confident woman in the world. That’s what we’re here to help with. All you need is a willingness to try something new, have a little fun, and give yourself permission to enjoy being the center of attention for a change.
And if you’re a little shy at first? That’s perfectly fine, too. Nancy certainly didn’t let it stop her.
When we asked if there was anything else she’d like to share about her experience, she summed it up beautifully: “Just do it. Book a session you won’t regret it.”
Nancy came to Lone Star Pin-up because she loved the portraits she’d seen of someone else. She left with a collection of beautiful photographs of her own, a day full of memories, and a new appreciation for the woman looking back at her.
A little shy at first, a whole lot of fabulous by the end.
