About your shoot

Why Lone Star Pin-up?
Unlike most photography studios, we specialize exclusively in vintage style photography. Our hair and makeup artists specialize in retro hair and makeup styles. We constantly build new and exclusive sets for our clients' shoots, and provide hundreds of wardrobe options in our costume closet. To top off your experience, our high-end photo retouching and custom artwork options will give your pin-up images the perfect finishing touch.

We are firm believers in quality over quantity, and offer only high quality products to showcase your portraits. We love all things vintage and glamorous and want you to cherish your images for years to come.

What exactly is "cheesecake," anyway?
Cheesecake is the term given to photos and illustrations of classic pin-ups. Think confident women, bright colors and just enough clothing to leave a little to the imagination. We love shooting cheesecake-style pin-ups as well as vintage glamour portraits.

Who can be a pin-up?
Anyone! We transform women of all shapes, sizes, ages, ethnicities and experience levels into pin-up girls and retro bombshells. 99% of our clients are everyday women with no modeling experience who simply want a unique portrait session. We help with styling, posing and facial expressions to make sure all our clients feel confident in front of the camera.

How much does it cost?
The total cost of your session is determined by you, depending on how many poses, prints, digital images or products you choose. You can custom-tailor your portrait experience to your specifications by choosing your session type and adding images a la carte or in one of our discounted photo packages. All prices can be found on our Pricing & Packages page.

Do you offer financing?
Yes! You can finance your session payment using Bill Me Later. Click the banner below for details!

What does the session fee cover?
The session fee reserves your time in the studio with the photographer and your hair and makeup artist. It includes a free consultation, access to our costume closet, hair and makeup styling, a gallery of images to review immediately following your shoot and a print credit toward the images of your choice. A nonrefundable payment of half of the session fee is required to book your photo shoot.

Is hair and makeup included?
Yes, your session fee includes hair and makeup styling. For best results, please come with a clean face and no heavy products in your hair. Make sure your hair is completely dry. A $30 fee will apply if you come to your shoot with wet hair.

I have very short hair, ethnic hair, wear a wig or have an extreme hair cut or color. Can you style me as a pin-up?
Of course! We have a limited assortment of wigs at the studio, so we encourage our pin-ups to bring matching hairpieces that may be used to enhance your look. Human hair wigs are easiest to work with and produce the best results. Synthetic wigs can also be styled, but be sure to bring one with some curl, as straight synthetic hair does not work well for pin-up hair styling. Try to bring a quality hair piece, not a Halloween or costume wig. Short hair can also be styled in a variety of ways. Contact us if you have specific questions or concerns about hair styling.

What if I have to reschedule?
48 hours notice is required to reschedule your shoot in order to keep your session fee payment on file. If you reschedule with less than 48 hours notice or do not show up for your appointment with no notice given, $200 of your session fee will be forfeited. All session fees and payments are non-refundable, so canceling your shoot will result in forfeiture of your session fee. Session fees for one day specials, special events, classes and workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable, so make sure you can attend before booking.

What should I bring?
Any vintage or retro-style clothing that makes you feel sexy and any props with sentimental value, like your favorite teddy bear or your guitar. Check out our ideas page for lots of other suggestions. If you have a specific idea in mind but don't have any props or costumes, contact us for more information on what props and costumes are available at the studio. Be sure to bring a flesh-toned bra and panties and some high heels! Please wear a loose-necked or button front shirt for hair and makeup styling.

Do you provide the outfits?
We have an extensive costume closet filled with a large selection of wardrobe options in a wide range of sizes (women's sizes 0-26). In addition to our vintage options, some of our items include beautiful garments from What Katie Did, Pin-up Girl Clothing, Sew She Said, Bettie Page Clothing, Secrets in Lace, Sourpuss, Victoria's Secret, Corset Boutique and many more. Our pin-ups are always welcome to bring their own clothing as well, as long as the wardrobe is retro. We can mix and match items to find the perfect look for your shoot. Steel-boned corsets, retro dresses, skirts and hosiery are also available in our boutique. Custom outfits are available from Sew She Said for the perfect pin-up recreation.

Do you shoot everyday clothing as well?
WE DO NOT SHOOT MODERN CLOTHING. There are countless studios available to shoot modern styles, but we only shoot vintage and retro styles.

Do you shoot nudes?
We shoot implied nudity (meaning you can be naked, but all goodies are strategically covered) but we do not shoot full nudes.

Do you have props?
We have an entire closet of props to choose from, such as old telephones, furniture, theme and holiday items, vintage luggage, nautical and military props and lots more. While we do offer a wide range of items, bringing your own will make certain your shoot is different from anyone else's. Let us know ahead of time if you are looking for something specific and we will do our best to find it before your photo shoot. Custom props can also be built for an additional fee. If you have an idea, contact us for a consultation.

Can I shoot with a car or motorcycle?
We are not able to shoot cars in studio at this time. If you would like to shoot your car on location, please contact us for scheduling. An additional travel fee will apply. Motorcycles may be brought into studio for a $35 fee per bike. A handler must be on site at all times to move the bike. We are not responsible for moving any bikes or any damage that may occur while in studio. Bikes may not be driven into the studio, and you must keep the motor off at all times.

I saw a theme/set in your gallery that I want for my shoot. Is this possible?
We rotate our sets and specials out monthly and always have new themes available. Although a past set may no longer be available, new ones will always be set up for shooting. Be sure to add our Facebook page to keep up with theme specials and new sets.

How should I prepare for my shoot?
Research
If you can, do some research into what kind of looks you prefer. Our hair and makeup artists have extensive styling experience and will find the best look for you with or without reference material. Keep in mind it is not always possible to replicate something exactly as many styles depend on the texture, length and fullness of your hair.

Special Effects
Special effects or extreme makeup looks will require a consultation prior to your shoot and an additional fee for materials and services. Feel free to contact us with any special requests or ideas.

Hair and Makeup
Most hair works best for styling if it is clean, but has not been washed that same day. For best results, wash your hair the night before and do not use any styling products on the day of your shoot (hair gel, baby oil, hair spray, etc). Do not come with dirty, greasy or oily hair as this will severely limit your styling options.

If you have extremely curly hair, please come with your hair already straightened so that we may style it.

Have your eyebrows groomed 2-3 days before the shoot.

Please arrive with clean, moisturized skin.

If you have sensitivities to certain kinds of makeup, please feel free to bring your own.

Personal Care and Grooming
Nails should be clean and free of chipped polish. We find a professional manicure and pedicure before your shoot works best.

Be sure to remove any body hair you do not want to show in your images.

If possible, get a good night's rest the night before to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Keep your skin moisturized with lotion before you come to your shoot. Applying lotion immediately before your shoot can leave your skin looking greasy or shiny. Do not apply baby oil before your shoot.

During Your Shoot
Be sure to wear a loose-necked or button front shirt for hair and makeup styling. Our costumes are not to be worn during hair and makeup styling.

Cameras (even on your cell phone) are not allowed in the studio area.

Please remember that photo makeup and day-to-day makeup are very different. It may seem unnatural or too heavy for everyday wear, but on camera it will look normal. Normal, day-to-day makeup will not read on camera under studio lighting.

The most important thing is that you feel beautiful and are happy with the result. The best thing about hair and makeup is that it isn’t permanent. If you don’t like something, we can always change it.

What if I have scars, acne, stretch marks, etc?
All photos purchased from our portrait studio include basic retouching package FREE! This means all skin will be smoothed to perfection, eliminating blemishes, scars, bruises, stretch marks, cellulite, etc. We also offer a deluxe retouching package for more extensive corrections, such as fixing tan lines, body reshaping and sculpting, etc. as well as additional retouching service such as removal of braces, item color change or tattoo removal.

Can I add another person or pet to my shoot?
Although our main focus is turning everyday gals into fabulous pin-up vixens, we are also able to shoot men, children and pets as long as the theme is retro. We only have wardrobe for women, so all other clothing will need to be provided by you. Additional fees may apply.

Will someone help with posing?
Yes, we will pose you and help with facial expressions. To prepare, try searching the internet to view pin-up art and photography from the 1940's and 1950's. Take a look at their faces and body positioning. Go to your mirror and work on facial expressions before your shoot. You may feel silly or self conscious, but the best thing you can do is fully commit to it and your photos will turn out great! Be prepared to be physically active. The best poses are almost always awkward or uncomfortable. Before your shoot, be sure to stretch so that your body will be loosened up and ready to strike a pose.

Where will the shoot take place?
You may book your session at either one of our portrait studio locations in Killeen or Salado, TX.

Can I bring my camera to take pictures at my shoot?
Cameras of any kind are not allowed in the studio area. You may not take your own photos on our sets, in our costumes with your hair and makeup styled by our artists.

Is the photographer male or female?
Female! Our studio is a male-free zone. Please do not bring men (or children) with you to the studio, especially if other clients are present.

When will I see and pay for my pictures?
You will view all your images immediately after your shoot and make your final image selections. Images will be kept on file for 6 months for reorders. Payment is due in full on the day of your session. We accept cash and credit/debit card payments. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express cards are accepted. Sorry, no checks accepted.

How long before I get my pictures?
Please allow 10-14 business days for retouching and an additional 5-7 business days for prints to process and arrive at the studio. Some specialty products take longer to process and arrive. We will contact you when your images are ready to be picked up. The turn around for discount specials and pin-up parties may require additional time to process.

Where do I pick up my pictures?
Unless shipping arrangements have been made, you will pick up your images from our portrait studio at 1300 W. Stan Schlueter Loop, Suite #200, Killeen, Texas 76549. Click here for directions. We will notify you as soon as your images are ready to be picked up.

Will my photos be posted on the website or in one of your online galleries?
Your photos will never be posted publicly unless you have given us your expressed permission to do so. We understand that some images are meant to be private or are surprises for a loved one, so we will never post them without your permission.

When I buy a digital image, do I get the copyright?
No, Lone Star Pin-up retains the copyright to all images created. For high resolution image orders, we will include a letter authorizing you to print your images anywhere you like. Digital images must remain unaltered unless alterations have been approved by the photographer.

What is a pin-up party?
A pin-up party is an opportunity for 4-8 girls to have their hair and makeup done and get a great discount on a pin-up photo shoot. Click here for details on hosting your own pin-up party! All party sessions and packages are PER PERSON.

Do you offer a military discount?
Yes, we offer an additional 5% discount off our regularly priced images and photo packages to active duty military personal and their dependants. This discount may not be combined with any other discounts or specials and does not apply to your session fee. When booking your appointment, enter this coupon code in the message section to request our military discount: MILDISC

Do you do TFP?
No, we shoot clients only. We do not shoot anyone for free or hire models.

Are you hiring?
At this time, we are not hiring. If this status changes, we will post any job availability here on our website and on our Facebook page.
